Outer Reef and Whitehaven Day · Airlie Beach
Viper combines Hill Inlet, Whitehaven Beach and a snorkel at Bait Reef on the Outer Great Barrier Reef in one day, from 8am to 5pm. Hotel pickup, lunch and a guided snorkel are included. You need to be a confident swimmer and at least 130cm tall.
A $20 per person surcharge applies on Australian, Queensland and local public holidays. Pickup from local hotels is included.

Most day trips make you choose between Whitehaven Beach and the outer reef, because the reef lies much further out. Viper's jet boat is built to cover that distance, so you get both.
The morning is for Hill Inlet and the beach, the afternoon for Bait Reef, where a guide leads the snorkel. The reef is open ocean rather than a sheltered bay, so this is a day for strong swimmers.
It is the most expensive day tour in our comparison, and worth it if the outer reef matters to you. Non-swimmers and families with young children are better off with Reefworld.
We live in Cairns and we book these tours every week. These are the guides we send guests before they choose.
