Full Day Great Barrier Reef Tour · Cairns
Every other full-day reef tour from Cairns visits two outer reef sites. Silverswift visits three. That one extra stop sounds small until you're getting back on the boat at site two knowing there's still a third one to go. We departed at 8:30am, were at Flynn Reef by mid-morning, and finished the day at Thetford, five hours at the outer reef across three completely separate locations.
Part of the Quicksilver Group, Silverswift operates 19 exclusive dive sites, not the public moorings shared with every other boat on the reef, but spots where you're the only group in the water. All guided dives are included in the dive price with no extra charge, a meaningful difference, because guided dives at other operators run $30–65 on top. Three certified dives with full gear hire came to $142. The food across the day was also more than we expected: morning focaccias, a hot and cold tropical buffet at lunch, cheese and cakes on the afternoon run. Wetsuit included in the base ticket.
At $318 adult after the fuel surcharge, this isn't the cheapest day out, and the child price of $233 is the highest of any Cairns operator. But for certified divers especially, no other day trip from Cairns offers the same combination: three outer reef sites, exclusive dive moorings, instructor-guided dives at no extra charge, and five hours in the water. If diving is the reason you came to Cairns, this is the tour.
Not included: introductory dive (from $98), certified dive add-on pricing below, helicopter, hotel transfer. Fuel surcharge $10 adult / $5 child added to ticket price.
Silverswift is the only operator from Cairns visiting three separate outer reef locations in a single day. Each site has a different character, from the diverse structures of Flynn to the drop-offs at Milln and coral gardens at Thetford.
